News-A Message to our Netroots Friends and Supporters

Dear Friends and Supporters of the Netroots Community,

Eric Massa here at the keyboard. I am writing today to thank all of you for your past and continued support as we work to build a stronger majority in the House of Representatives. In 2006 and 2007, I was honored to meet with all of you at the YearlyKos conventions in Las Vegas and Chicago. We exchanged stories, discussed policy, and came together over our common goal of making this nation a better place to live and work. This year, as I continue in our challenge to defeat the final Bush rubberstamp left in Western New York, I was faced with a tough dilemma regarding my attendance to Netroots Nation in Austin.

I was hoping to attend and again visit with all of you next weekend, but I've been invited to meet with the leaders of 20 local labor unions in the Southern Tier of New York. This is by far the biggest labor gathering in this crucial region of our district, and their grassroots support will likely be the difference between winning and losing in November. Although we tried, it simply was not an option to move this event.

I am disappointed that I will miss seeing all of you this year, but I'm sure all of you will understand that I must do what is necessary to win this campaign to end George Bush's legacy in Congress.

Thank you for your thoughts, your support and your commitment to the people of this country.

News-Over 7,000 grassroots signatures ensure Eric Massa's place on the ballot

ALBANY, NY- Today, the Massa for Congress campaign filed 7,209 signatures from registered Democrats all over New York's 29th District. This is a significant increase from the 2006 election when Massa's campaign submitted 6,180. Eric Massa, retired Navy Commander and Congressional candidate in New York's 29th district, issued the following statement:

"The tremendous level of grassroots support we've received throughout the petitioning process has been absolutely overwhelming. I am deeply honored to have a place on the ballot and the opportunity to represent the families of Western New York. Nearly 1,000 signatures came from Yates County alone and that is a testament to the growth of our grassroots campaign. This is undeniable proof that the people of Western New York are ready for change in Washington and I am ready and willing to lead this charge."

News-On Independence Day Massa calls for a commitment to true energy independence

CORNING, NY- On Tuesday Saudi Arabian King Abdullah stated that America needs to get used to skyrocketing gas prices. Abdullah, leader of the largest oil exporting country in the world, claimed that the United States must adapt to the market and that Saudi Arabia has nothing to do with the price of crude oil. Retired Navy Commander and Congressional candidate in New York's 29th district, Eric Massa, issued the following statement:

CORNING, NY- Following the Supreme Court's landmark 5-4 ruling on the right to bear arms in District of Columbia v. Heller, Congressional candidate and retired Navy Commander Eric Massa issued the following statement:

"I'm glad that the Supreme Court has reaffirmed the right of individuals to bear arms," said former Naval Officer Massa. "It is important that we protect each of the rights guaranteed in the Constitution, so I strongly support this decision. As we continue forward into a new era of national leadership, we must reaffirm the rights our forefathers' established and our fathers defended.

News-As gas prices skyrocket, Massa calls on Congress to end Big Oil tax handouts... As American families struggle to afford $4 per gallon at the pump, Big Oil loyalists vote to continue the corporate welfare

CORNING, NY- As the Big Oil loyalists in Congress continue to argue on behalf of Exxon Mobil's record profits and against energy independence, Eric Massa has called for a responsible approach to our nation's energy future. As record profits continue to climb for the Oil Giants and the national average of a gallon of gas has surpassed $4.00, it is time for a windfall profits tax on Big Oil, not more spin and corporate handouts. Massa issued the following statement as Senate Republicans blocked the windfall profit tax for Big Oil:

"While Big Oil is making billion dollar profits, hardworking middle class families are struggling to afford skyrocketing gas prices -- this simply cannot go on," said retired Navy Commander and Democratic candidate for Congress in New York's 29th district, Eric Massa. "The Republican rubberstamps in Washington are sending a clear message to American families that they support Big Oil first and middle class families second. We need long term solutions to our country's addiction to foreign oil. Drilling in Alaska will reduce the cost of gasoline by one penny over twenty years -- clearly that will not help families struggling to pay at the pump. It's time to stop wasting our money on $400 million retirement bonuses for CEO's and start using it to break our addiction to foreign oil."
